Alessandro Olivas, ‘Meke’.
A graphic designer who graduated in 2010, he trained in Art Direction and Advertising Creativity at schools such as “Motel” and “Underground.” Throughout his 16-year career, he has worked at leading Peruvian advertising agencies such as McCann, Young & Rubicam, One2One, and others. At the same time, he has developed a career as an independent artist.
In 2012, he co-founded “Proyecto Proyectil” with friends, a collective focused on illustration and lettering. In 2020, during the pandemic, he decided to launch his most significant project: “Badwords,” a deeply personal exploration of protest and existentialism that uses clothing as a vehicle for expression, inspired by Virgil Abloh, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Banksy.
“Meke,” as he is known in the industry, believes in art as a fundamental human language and rejects the idea that art is a “decorative” discipline—a concept propagated by the powerful classes to silence societies. He defends romanticism and critical thinking.
All of this, while surviving in an industry that is at times frivolous, at times human, contributing both heart and reason.
